To fly like a bird, is one of the oldest dreams of human - to discover the world by travelling is one of the most exciting experiences. What can be better than to connect flying with travelling to a dreamlike experience? It started as a fictional idea several years ago and matured during the last two years to become a real project: “Round-the-World” in a self flown airplane. The start of our tour will be on Thursday, 8th of April, 2010 on the AERO exhibition in Friedrichshafen and will end on Friday, 20th of August, 2010 at the same location. On this tour we will visit some of most exciting places in the world. Besides, our aim is not to arrive at the various locations alone but equally important to fly the routes between our destinations. These routes will lead us across vast deserts, everlasting ice regions, mountain formations, rain forests, coral reefs, and oceans. On this website you are invited to join us on our trip. But be careful – especially young people: There is a danger for you to become infected by the „fascination of flying“. Maybe finally you are motivated to become a pilot yourself. But be advised, it is this fascination that all pilots, whether in commercial aviation or in private planes, have in common. And because there are always new challenges and experiences in flying, this fascination drives most pilots a lifelong.
On this website you will find insights into the necessary preparation work of such a project "Round-the-World" as well as information about the aircraft and its equipment. The flying enthusiast will hopefully find some new useful tips. And of course we regularly will provide news about our experiences and travel impressions on our logbook.
Motto
„Single hand, single engine, single trip“. The piloting challenge of this trip is that one pilot flies a single engine light airplane around the world in one ongoing turn. Of course not on a non-stop mission – but in a continuous trip with many stops at beautiful locations. However, even though the piloting is done by one person, the plan can only be successfully carried out by good cockpit teamwork and the help of many people on the ground. Since 1924 the so-called "Earth Rounders" were internationally tracked on a sequential chronology. According to www.earthrounders.com currently we will be worldwide the 165th team on start flying a single engine light airplane. Up to now there were 26 successful German starters before us. Despite all planning and careful preparation work, unfortunately such a journey has no guarantee for success like on a booked travel arrangement. Negative political impacts on our route, serious trouble, health problems or unfriendly weather may put our project at risk. However, one day we would not like to accuse ourselves because at least we didn’t give it a try...
