Flights across the Atlantic in a light airplane are especially demanding in many respects. This is valid for the rapidly changing weather just as for the limited available emergency landing spots as well as the extremely low water temperatures in the Atlantic even in summer. Hence, care is required in every regard.

The departure in Kangerlussuaq is an “immediate take-off" on RW09 which is favorable for us. Today the weather consultation of the DWD was a direct hit again. We use the optimum time window for the flight on this day. So we experience the breathtaking beauty of the Arctic from the air which can only hardly be taken in pictures and words.

On the way the blue melt water lakes shine like spots of ink on a white tablecloth. However, our attention lies above all on two research stations on our way to the east. Meticulously we take down their GPS positions to be able to return in case of an emergency.

Since Canada a never ending formation of low pressure systems with difficult icing follows us on our route so that our last reserve days have been used now. For Iceland only little time remains.
Solidified flows of lava, steaming earth, geysers, lakes, waterfalls and countless volcanoes. Only a little south of the polar circle the vegetation is marked by a juicy green again. Primarily populated by Iceland horses and sheep. The latter appear as white spots, like hand washed and blow-dried.
