S42 ° 50.2‘, E 147 ° 30.6‘ Hobart International Airport: we have reached the south most point of our trip. The days are short - winter stands in front of the door. However we also hope that we now have reached the chilliest point of our trip. A real Tasmanian wears short trousers also at these temperatures – at least there is sunshine!
One could not have chosen a nicer scenery for the island capital: Surrounded by water and in front of the mighty Mount Wellington. Hobart has a charming character and is not by chance called the „Open-air museum of Australia“.
The biggest part of Tasmania exists of national parks. Mountains, highlands, forest and coastal regions, in addition an animal world which can be found nowhere else. Actually, it certainly would take weeks to explore everything.
We can only make a small selection. We are stunned about stone formations on the beach created by wind, waves and salt crystals as well as about 100-metre-high giant gum trees and fern trees which let expect the appearance of dinosaurs at every moment.
One thing is quite sure to us: the „Tasmanian Devil“ carries his name rightfully – constantly looking for trouble.
