Jakarta

Takeoff runway in Kuala Lumpur Subang is RW 15. Unfortunately, our climb performance is reduced due to the high temperatures and extremely high air humidity that we have already in the morning hours. Therefore, the approach controller vectors us further to the west to stay clear of the approach sector of Kuala Lumpur Sepang International. Then finally on our course at 02:17:37 UTC: our GNS530 displays S00°00,03' E104°30,50'. We have reached the southern hemisphere just south of Singapore – a moving moment on our tour!

Thanks to Ismail Ashaari we are somehow included in the Southeast Asian "aviator network" now. The most important members of the Indonesian Flying Club (Philip H. Soelistio, Chepy R. Nasution, Purnardi Djojosudirdjo, Nurochman Pudjo Basuki) already expect us at Jakarta Halim International. Also in Indonesia the entry - in contrast to our expectations - is made very easy for us: visas cleared on a crew visa basis for 14 days and the hotel is booked. We are invited to lunch and dinner and of course to the "home airfield" of the Indonesian Flying Club. For the departure day on Sunday a newspaper interview is foreseen.

Really admirably how the Indonesian Flying Club manages to organize the Club activities which includes the promotion of young people and the support for national and foreign pilots in light of the fact that there are not so many private pilots in this country. Everywhere in Indonesia AVGAS is a big issue. That is the reason for the existence of numerous ultra lights.  And they are used in all conceivable variations: from high speed kits to seaplanes for island hopping.

We get to know the Indonesian / Chinese kitchen. Be adventures: our question what we just eat is answered by: "Frog". It tasks good, however, we decided to better keep back more questions …
In Jakarta the hurdle which we must take is called “sightseeing” tour. Upon our phone call the prices all in a sudden have trebled overnight. Supposedly one has forgotten to update the price-list for the last three years.

Indonesia consists of 17000 islands with more than 400 ethnic groups, languages and six accredited religions. Jakarta presents itself to us as an exciting melting pot of all these different groups.
At night we are driven with nearly 100 km/h through town. No joke: in Indonesia there is no general speed limit within the city limits.

Again it is time to move on and say good bye. „They eat no frog“, someone makes a joke on us. So we are invited to a restaurant with dishes that compromises on all tastes. We really have a lot of fun this evening. Besides, on this evening all necessary contacts were established for our further trip to Bali and for our return to Indonesia (beginning of June on the way to Manila / Philippines we visit Balikpapan). Our new friends activate the Ground Handling agents and their colleagues along our route, in case we should inherit any problems.
Jakarta really was a great experience for us with such a great hospitality by all people we met here.
