"Only" 3.5 hours of flight – how the perspectives change! The challenge is the weather like so many times before. Where typically the high pressure systems would reside during Pacific summer we now have to cope with three low pressure areas instead. Our trip seems to become a reality course in worldwide meteorology. Although we feel well prepared and receive very useful WX briefing from the DWD in Hamburg - along our route we really earned a good amount of respect of the elements from the most southern point of our trip (Hobart, Australia) up to the most northern (Nome/Alsaka). Magadan once starting point for the movement of the prisoners to Siberia is the rescuing anchor point for us: without AVGAS there will be no Earth Rounding for us. One year of planning, countless telephone calls and emails were needed to organize three barrels with 100LL AVGAS to East Russia. In the end, we finally got the fuel from a friendly local Russian company which is operating an AN2. Big luck and the full dedication of the Ground Handling agency “Universial Aviation” were necessary to guarantee the logistics for the re-fuelling. Not only this but also all the processes on the ground are handled very smoothly without one single problem by this company. Without all this helping hands a project like ours is impossible to conduct. The coronation of the day is waiting for us in the hotel. Beside the bath also the cushions and blankets survived the last 50 years without being out of service for one day. The room prices however, are oriented at the prices of metropolises of the world. |
