San Francisco

The fog rolls into the Bay Area from the Pacific Ocean. This typical weather condition covers most of Golden Gate and San Francisco under a fog layer. San Carlos however, only a few miles away, has plenty of Californian sunshine. Luckily, because the only IFR approach procedure (a GPS approach) was cancelled by NOTAM only shortly before. We are cleared for the Visual Approach south of the San Francisco International Airport.

Probably San Francisco not only to us creates this special nostalgic feeling. So, our first walk leads us to the San Francisco Cable Car. Incidentally we have been around on the re-opening week-end of the Cable Car back in 1984. The queue has probably never become shorter since then. When it rattles finally downhill and uphill through the streets, it becomes clear that every minute standing in the line was worth it. Fisher Men's Wharf in our opinion has meanwhile changed into a fairground. It has lost a lot of the old charming Hippie Days.
On the second day Golden Gate still remains covered under the fog. In the Sonoma County and Nappa Valley there is beautiful sunshine, best wine and good food.
On the third day, finally, the fog thins out and clears the view on Golden Gate Bridge for a short while.
