The preparation to our project “Round-the-World” did not begin with a single "big bang" – but was like forming a picture from many pieces of a puzzle over the past years. Finally, on the routing we were in agreement fairly fast. Some countries which we had not travelled before absolutely had to be on the list - but also locations that are not so easy to be travelled by conventional means. One of the most important planning tools in this planning phase were Google Earth (earth.google.com) with the supplement "Airport Data" which contains worldwide all important airports with their essential characteristics, various travel guides and the Internet Flight Planner of JEPPESEN. Not to forget the platform www.earthrounders.com. Here you find a lot of useful tips and suggestions as well as web addresses of many other pilots – an unconditional must for an “Earthrounder”. We have used this source of information particularly to directly get in touch with other pilots. On this way we received enormously helpful first hand information.
