Bali

With prevailing calm winds we get cleared the more favorable runway 06 for takeoff. Our flight runs quietly, because early in the morning a corridor has formed over Jawa which is marked right and left by immense CBs. We are in the middle of the ITCZ weather phenomena. However, the CB are generally isolated and well to be seen from the distance. Therefore they are quite easily to be flown around. According to the forecasts, Bali will remain in the southern part of the ITCZ during the next weeks: at night thunderstorms primarily over the Indian ocean with its’ more than 35°C warm water – and from midday on thunderstorm of all places – and they deserve the predicate heavy.

As already in Jakarta the handling agents of the company Sari Rahayu Biomantara were lined up upon our arrival. We have chosen the same handing agent for all three Indonesian airports to make our life a bit easier. Apparently this company was the right choice. Here the boss comes personally and greets us with a local carving.

In Bali we have not really the best weather. The tour through the island is quite adventurously: on narrow, precipitous, bendy little roads with pot holes we pass the rain forest and get to the rice terraces. Everywhere preparations for the Gulungan celebration is ongoing (a Hindu celebration which takes place every 210 days). Thousands of temples and all streets are decorated with bamboo rods, colored carvings and material. Sacrificial ceremonies, dances with mythical figures and colorful processions take place.
We end the evening on the beach on which the surfers dance like acrobats on the waves.
