Dallas

Early in the morning the density altitude at the Grand Canyon National Park Airport is approx. in 1500 ft higher than the airfield elevation which already is 6600 ft. (approx. 2100m). A runway length of 8999ft provides sufficient take-off contingency for "breathlessness" smaller aircraft at these altitudes. Even at this altitude 86°F/30°C and more can be reached during the day in summer. Our Cessna however has no problems to become airborne because of the turbo charged engine.

Past weird signs, colored deserts in New Mexico and the endlessly appearing Texan farm country we reach Dallas. 100°F/38°C: today it is really hot. We land at Dallas Love Field, a national airport with rather high traffic density. Southwest Airlines has its’ home base at this airport. The infrastructure of this airport - equipped with three runways - is excellent.
We park our Cessna at one of the local FBOs. The fuel price is paying for almost all fees here in the USA. In particular the included ground handling services are mostly really excellent. Merely the park fees at 5-15$/night are charged in separately. Rather small amounts in comparison to the exorbitant fees that we had to pay in India, Arabia and Asia.

Countless highways traverse the city of Dallas. A lot of time is spent in air-conditioned cars. Not the worst idea at these prevailing temperatures. An absolute must in Dallas: Visit a good steak House!
