The approach to Runway 21 of Grand Canyon National Park Airport is at the same time a scenic flight along the canyon. The minimum flight altitude here is 14500ft. for reasons of nature and wild life protection – we are cleared to 15000 ft initially. The airport on the South Rim has an elevation of 6600 ft (approx. 2100m). The landing speed (ground speed) is noticeably higher because of that elevation, 29°C temperature on the ground and the prevailing tail wind.

Grand Canyon is extremely busy this time of the season. Everything is overcrowded - especially the busses. However, the sheer size, the beautiful colors and the variety of rock formations make the day an impressive experience. Well, until this strong downpour, when everybody has to re-enter the coaches again.
