Asahikawa

Though Tokyo had to be cancelled due to the weather, but at least Fuji shows itself from a distance. The approach to Asahikawa occurs in the predicted bad weather. Mr. Torita gave us the tip to use the service of air traffic control to circum navigate the CBs. That advice works fine for us and so we reach our destination on an easterly route.

Asahikawa is located in the heart of Hokkaido, a country side in green. 120 rivers are flowing through the town which lies in front of the picturesque Mount Daisetsu-Zan. It is main holiday season and we are lucky to have a reservation for one of the rare hotel rooms.

Peter Steeger personally comes to Asahikawa with his MAULE aircraft to organize our departure on site. The formalities in Japan are complicated and require not only Japanese language skills but also a lot of understanding in dealing with all sorts of hurdles.

Given so much green in the surroundings we have to dedicate the Saturday to a round of golf. The service and the quality on the local course are simply sensational. Merely the fully automated golf carts rather remind of Disneyland than of St. Andrews.

Special thanks to Peter Steeger and his friend Mr. Torita for making our trip to Japan an interesting and enjoyable part of our journey.
